The five lap DeWalt superbike race got under way, the weather and road conditions were good but dull . Guy Martin looked to be the first away as the lights changed, Rutter and McGuinness were hard on his heels . As the exited Primrose and headed down towards the York corner their wheels were pawing the air . As they exited the Mill road roundabout, Martin had a 50 metre advantage over his rivals . The positions as they came onto the Ballysally roundabout were Martin, Rutter, Plater, McGuinness, Hutchinson, Donald, Anstey and Lougher . As they braked coming into the Metropole it was Martin who was still in the lead ahead of Rutter and McGuinness, they were very tightly bunched . Plater was now down in 6th place . Martin was first across the line as they started the 2nd lap .

When they appeared at the Ballysally roundabout, Martin was still ahead of McGuinness, Plater and Rutter . When they rounded the Metropole corner, Cameron Donald had moved ahead of Rutter, the other leading places remained the same . Martin was still in the lad as they crossed the line for the 2nd time, he had flashed through the speed trap at 196 mph . On the 3rd lap, McGuinness was ahead of Martin, Plater and Donald as they came up the slip road onto the roundabout at ballysally . However Martin was back into the lead as they came down the hill towards the Metropole . He was trailing his wheel as he braked for the corner . Cameron Donald overshot and went down the slip road, he didn't rejoin the race . As they crossed the finish line at the end of the lap, 0.4 seconds separated Martin and McGuinness, Plater, Rutter, Anstey, Johnston, Hutchinson, Farquhar, Robb and Amor in the next positions .

The gap between Martin and McGuinness was now 0.59 seconds, Rutter was now up in 3rd place . When they appeared at the Metropole for the 2nd last time, McGuinness was now ahead of Martin, Rutter and Plater, they were tightly bunched as they rounded the corner . A very tight bunch approached the finish line to commence the final lap, Rutter and Plater were side by side fighting over 3rd and 4th places .

Rutter had grabbed the lead as they made their way towards the university corner, Martin, McGuinness, Plater, Johnson, Anstey, Hutchinson and Farquhar were right on his tail . Positions remained the same as the rounded the Metropole corner, with Farquhar unsuccessfully trying to nip up the inside of Hutchinson . Rutter had a 0.79 second advantage as he flashed past the chequered flag, Martin, McGuinness, Plater and Johnson taking the next places .
