The Greenline 250 cc Race

The four lap GreenLine 250 cc Race got under way, the weather wasn't great earlier, it was cold, windy and damp. However, before the race started, the sun appeared, but the roads were wet in places .

John McGuinness was the first off the line, while Christian Elkin got bogged down . When they arrived up at the Ballysally roundabout, McGuinness was just ahead of Elkin, Michael Dunlop, Denver Robb and William Dunlop . On the run to the Metropole, slipstreaming was evident with the constant boost of speed as they passed each other . Coming down into the Metropole, Elkin flew passed everyone and ran very wide as he fought to control the bike. When they arrived at the pits chicane, the race was red flagged, a rider had come off at Mathers Cross . On the 3 lap restarted race, Dunlop was the first away . When they appeared at the York corner it was Dunlop and McGuinness who were leading . As they headed towards the Mill Road roundabout, Dunlop was ahead but he was being caught by Denver Robb . Dunlop was pulling away as they headed towards Cromore and the university, but a group of approx 10 riders appeared together at the university corner . Dunlop pulled away again as they headed towards the Metropole, behind him there were four riders abreast as they passed Carnalridge School, just before the Magherabuoy chicane . Dunlop was first at the Metropole but the group had doubled behind him . As they belted along the coast road, Dunlop was leading Elkin, William Dunlop and Chris Palmer and they crossed the finish line for the 1st time in the same order .

Elkin had caught M Dunlop before York and tried to pass him on the outside but wasn't successful . William was 400 yards behind at this time . Elkin and M Dunlop swapped places several times along the run to the university, Elkin leading them through the Ballysally roundabout . At Mathers cross Elkin was in Dunlop's slipstream and was away again but it was all swap again on the run to the Metropole . On the coast road Dunlop was 4 - 5 bike lengths ahead of Elkin and Dunlop crossed the line first .

On the final lap, Elkin and Dunlop were side by side going around Primrose corner and Elkin was ahead by York corner . Elkin opened the gap as the battled towards the university but Dunlop fought back and passed him at Black Bridge . They were together at Ballysally, a gap of only two bike lengths between them . Elkin was leading at the Magherabuoy but Dunlop was back in front at the university . However at Juniper chicane thinks changed dramatically, Elkin lost it, recovered, and then lost it again and took M Dunlop with him . It was left to 3rd placed man William Dunlop to take the checkered flag, Chris Palmer and Phil Harvey in the next two places .
