The Dewalt Superbike race

The four lap DeWalt superbike race got under way with McGuinness, Amor and Farquhar getting the best starts . Amor was leading by the time they appeared at York, the next three groups still not away . Whenever they appeared ay the university, Farquhar was the race leader . McGuinness, Anstey, Plater and Martin close behind him . Farquhar was still leading a group of fifteen riders as they approached Mathers Cross but he had dropped back by the time they appeared at the Metropole . McGuinness, Anstey and Plater now ahead . At Juniper Hill chicane, McGuinness, Anstey, Plater and Donald were tight together and leading the rest of the field . As they crossed the line at the end of the lap it was McGuinness who was still leading the top five riders, a bike length between each of them .

At the York corner, Mcguinness and Plater were together, Plater on the inside . However McGuinness was still leading as they came up to the Mill Road roundabout . It was all change on the long fast run to the university, Plater was just ahead of Anstey, they went into the Ballysally roundabout with just a bike length between them . About seven other riders were line astern and close together . Whenever they appeared at the Magherabuoy chicane there was about three bike lengths between them and then a gap had opened up before the next line of riders appeared . Plater gradually extended his lead along the coast road but Anstey caught him up at the Juniper chicane . But Plater seemed to have the edge and pulled away again as they reached the pits .

As the raced towards York and up the hill towards the Mill Road roundabout, Plater extended his lead by quite a bit . When they appeared up onto the Ballysally roundabout, Plater was still there, he was followed by Anstey, McGuinness, Donald and Cummins . There was a definite gap opening up between the firs two and 3rd placed rider McGuinness . The gap between Plater and Anstey was 1 -2 bike lengths at Juniper but was up to 4 - 5 lengths by the time they crossed the finish line at the end of the 3rd lap .

Plater's bike was squirming under heavy braking as the entered York corner, he was still ahead of Anstey, McGuinness Donald and Cummins . Then the race was red flagged, an accident had occurred at the Magherabuoy chicane . The race was decided on the positions at the end of the 3rd lap . Plater was 1st, Anstey 2nd and McGuinness 3rd .
