The four lap McKendry Fabrications 125 Race got under way, the sun was appearing again and it was Robinson and Palmer who seem to get the best start . David Lemon had problems getting off the line . When the came up onto the Mill Road roundabout it was W Dunlop and Palmer who were leading and were pulling away from the rest of the field . On the way to Station corner and the University, Dunlop and Palmer were doing plenty of slipstreaming and swapping places, but Dunlop was the first up onto the Ballysally roundabout . Dunlop was starting to open the gap by the time they flashed through Mathers Cross . He had a lead of about 200 metres as he rounded the Metropole corner . He was crossing the finish line at the end of the lap before Palmer entered the chicane .
Dunlop seemed to be flying on the way to York, he was opening the gap steadily . Lemon, Linsdell and Lunney were gaining on Palmer . Before they reached Station Corner, Lemon's bike was starting to smoke . Dunlop was eight seconds ahead of Palmer at Ballysally and on the run to the Metropole he held this lead . Third and fourth placed riders were now starting to fall back . Dunlop was almost out of the start/finish chicane before Palmer entered it and Linsdell in 3rd, was well ahead of Lunney .
Dunlop was now looking as unstoppable as he approached York corner, he was having a lonely race now that he was so far apart . He used the full road as he piloted his way around Mathers Cross, the wind pulling his head back if he moved it slightly above the fairing . He then entered and left the Metropole taking a perfect line .
On the final lap, Dunlop was going into Primrose Corner and Palmer still hadn't left the start/finish chicane. Palmer was bound to be feeling that his chances of taking a win were now very slight . When the checkered flag appeared for Dunlop, he wa over seven seconds clear of Palmer, Linsdell, Lunney, Stephan Savelkouls and Ford in the next places . The battle for 4th place was more exciting that the battle for 1st and 2nd .
